Val Wood's home faces a wide driveway boarded by large willows, London plane and liquid amber trees. It’s like living in the country, she says. She can hear birds flitting through the leaves of the majestic tree lined lane, apples to pick off the many fruit trees which are strategically located in the village, and in the fall can smell hay which has been cut locally.

But Val lives ten minutes from the centre of Hamilton, she’s four minutes from the library, the supermarket and a good cafe.

“It’s really like being in the country but having the convenience of the city. There is a sense of peace here, it’s calm.”

Val was one of the village’s first residents. She has watched the village grow and says it has been fascinating to watch.

Val hadn’t planned on moving to a retirement village straight away. Her friend took her along to a presentation about Summerset. She was drawn more by the promise of an afternoon tea and a chat than the village itself. She was surprised.

“I came away really impressed. I love the fact there are four buttons you can press if you need help. I love that I can easily transfer to one of Summerset’s other 14 villages if I get to the point I need to be closer to family.”
