Testimonials
"We are so happy here - our only wish is that we had come 10 years earlier" "One of the major things is having everything on your doorstep. I can walk everywhere - to all shopping including the fabulous Bayfair complex, and of course to our magnificent beach" "Everyone is so friendly and welcoming - it really is a wonderful place to live" "The variety of activities is amazing - we can be involved in as much or as little as we choose" "The range of services on offer is really great - beautiful meals, free outings, regular concerts and other special social functions, and immediate access to excellent care if and when we need it" "The new Cafe is fantastic. We love being able to enjoy a cuppa and a snack with friends and family at any time during the day" "Bayswater really is a fantastic lifestyle resort - we just love it here" NEW RESIDENT'S LETTER TO FRIENDS ABOUT THEIR LIFESTYLE CHANGE.... Okay to those of you out there who do not yet know, this is where we are at now. You will not know our house next time you pay us a visit for we have moved. Yes, left good old Thames after some 34 years, and have relocated to Tauranga to kick our bucket around for what remaining years we have in our bodies. All very exciting it is too. We have chosen Bayswater Village as our new retirement property. Lovely place it is and set on 21 acres of stately palm trees and numerous shrubs. We have a one bedroom only villa with a single attached garage. All we need for our stage in life. The place is run by Metlifecare and what we have seen so far, very well organised. We have at one end of the resort and just across the road, the Mount Maunganui and Papamoa Beach. At the rear end of the property we have our very excellent bus service which we Golden Oldies can travel free after 9 o’clock in the morning till 3 o’clock in the afternoon when a small fee is charged. Not bad eh? And on the weekends all day is on the house, so to speak. Thank you Winston Peters. In saying all that, we can walk, all on the flat, to our Doctors, Chemist, Dentist. And the big Bayfair Shopping complex just around the corner from there. As you would have guessed, where we live now it is all maintenance free living and everything is safe and secure. On site we have a bar (two happy hours a week) a barbeque area, billiards, bowling green, community centre, croquet green, games room, guest suite (for those who want to stay over) a gym area, hair dressing salon, hobbies room, indoor heated swimming pool 15.5m long, 6.0m wide and 1.2m deep and heated to around 31 and 32 degrees Celsius. A lovely pool it is where the old walrus and the pretty young mermaid do their thing. Adjacent to this is the gym and a large spa pool with all its bubbles (a warm 38 degrees Celsius) library, Oasis café and restaurant (eat in or have the meal delivered to your villa). It has a large lounge to rest after having your feed and drink your coffee or tea and with a theatre stage just off (bring on the dancing girls). You can do plenty like cards, scrabble, play housie, etc. or do nothing. The old girl said to me the other day what was I going to do that day and I answered “nothing” and then she said “But that is what you did yesterday.” And with a grin I said “yes, but I never got finished.” Hard case eh? And of course all the villas and the apartments are linked to a 24 hour emergency call system, so support is only a push button away. You name it Bayswater has got it. Lovely grounds and gardens which are all looked after by the gardening team. And what a happy bunch they are. Then who would not be, working in paradise. This place is more like a resort than a holding pen. You can even have a pussy cat or a dog. Heather has me for company and that is enough. Things are good, real good, we have not been more happy. So much to do here, there is always something happening. Heather and Carrick Cruickshanks |

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.
In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
