What the Residents say...
In February 2015 I started researching retirement or life style villages driving past, looking online or going through 26. Looking on North Shore up to Orewa, Katikati and Bay of Plenty. Coming back to Copper Crest as the very best by far. My first visit with daughter Julie, Astrid showed us the show home and into the golf-cart she took us to the land of 115/116. Back to her office she showed us the plans of them and I loved having a den, sunroom, garage and a beautiful kitchen.
I had another visit with Astrid and meeting Bruce. I went to see 115/116 to take a photo as I could see the framing up. Ted my pending neighbour came out to see if I was looking for his wife Cheryl. I said “No, I am going to be your new neighbour.” They told me that their villa which is exact same design as theirs, so Cheryl and Ted invited me into their home and showed me around. (What wonderful neighbours I’ve got!) I could visualise just where my furniture would go, including my two pianos. Yes! I had a third one, but I gave it to my grandson for Christmas.
Moving in on 29th January, I received Astrid’s beautiful bouquet of welcome flowers. I also realized that I hadn’t down-sized enough; I had to hire a storage locker for two months, with regular visits to all the local op shops.
I’ve also kept Bruce D. and Kevin (our gardening/maintenance boys) busy with building storage cabinets in my garage. Our lovely Wendy and Sarah (front office staff) were also so helpful with any query I had, and for them, nothing is too much trouble.
Actually the whole complex is so friendly. On the day I moved in I met all my new neighbours. Ngaire visited me, as well as George with his lovely pikelets. I have also greatly appreciated Cheryl’s visits, with he also introducing me to so many of the village activities which I thoroughly enjoy.
Another plus, after living at Rings Beach on the Coromandel, it’s so lovely to be on Tauranga’s sealed roads (not dirt tracks, that could slip at any time and have me cut off from Whitianga.) Golly! I just LOVE living here, it sure is the life.

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.

In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet. The DHB Shared Services website provides additional information about this service.
