Testimonials
| Colin's story: "How lucky am I! When Colin needed to find rental accommodation in his 70s, he was worried. Now, he counts himself lucky to have landed on his feet at Stevenson Village. “Now, I’m surrounded by a community of people who care. We’re all around the same age and in a similar situation. We really look out for one another and that’s one of the best things about living here,” he enthuses. Another great benefit is that Colin no longer needs to worry about money as much. “It’s such a relief, and if I’m careful, I even have a bit left over each month,” he says. “My life has got much better – how lucky am I to be living in such a wonderful place!” |

Special Features
| Stevenson Village is exceptional in that it provides, for physically independent people of limited means, low cost rental units in a village atmosphere with the security of HBH Senior Living Managers on call. In 1977 a joint venture between Howick Returned Services Association and Sir William and Lady Stevenson saw the development of the Stevenson Village which consisted of 35 Home Units, a Village Hall and Manager's residence. The units, designed to maximise the sun, are built in blocks of two, three or four. They are constructed in a style that resembles the early Fencible cottages in the original settlement of Howick Village. Although residents are encouraged to maintain their independence and outside interests there is regular opportunity to enjoy the companionship of others in the Village and friends and family are welcome to visit. The carpeted Village Hall with its well stocked library, piano, organ, kitchen and recreational facilities is a focal point for this. Our Village Coordinator Maree Chisnall, makes contact with residents regularly, and as well as attending to grounds and maintenance issues to insure the smooth running of the Village. |
