Everyone is helpful, cheerful and friendly.

Having finally arrived home I write to thank you and the staff for the excellent care while I was temporarily resident with you last year. Excellent care only comes with excellent care-givers and your team is truly excellent. Every member was in their own individual way of kind and caring. They were unfailingly considerate and genuinely concerned about my well being. At all times I was a person never a patient. Everyone is helpful, cheerful and friendly - indeed when it came to depart, I felt sadness at leaving the number of friends I had made among the stuff.

In many ways I felt, as one with you temporarily, to be a spectator amid the permanent residents. What I observed however was that my own excellent care was no different to everyone else. In addition I saw the staff always patient and never annoyed, sometimes in trying circumstances. Above and beyond everything I was mode and truly humbled by the numerous small acts of spontaneous kindness - small acts which cumulatively amounted to great kindness overall. I am sure no individual member of the team considers themselves to be an exceptional person but overall they are exceptional people.

Action speak louder than words. Accordingly I have credited $1500 to the Home's account. I ask that you allot the $1000 for the benefit of the staff overall staff amenities? welfare? - I leave it to your good judgement. It is my tribute to the work they do and in particular the way they do it. The balance of $500 is a contribution to the lifestyle programme to help with Natalie's enthusiastic and hardworking efforts.

Highly Recommended - Forrest Hill Home & Hospital

Our Dad has been at the Forrest Hill Home & Hospital now for just over a year.
I must admit I was a little worried as I’m sure like everyone we’ve all heard some pretty bad stories about some Homes caring for the elderly, but I can honestly say my family and myself are 100% happy with Forrest Hill Home & Hospital. Dad settled in so well considering he never wanted to go into a home. His room is bright & modern and a lovely big en-suite, everything he wants is there. We cannot speak highly enough of all the staff, they are absolutely amazing and are always there willing to listen if you have any questions.
We also like how every three months they have a Residents & Family meeting, so you always know what’s happening and can discuss any concerns you may have.
Monday-Friday they have different activities on if the residents want to participate.
If we heard of anyone looking for a Home we would highly recommend Forrest Hill Home & Hospital.

Forrest Hill Home and Hospital

I thoroughly recommend Forrest Hill Home and Hospital. My father moved there when he could no longer look after himself, and he settled in very quickly. He had a lovely sunny north westerly room with a quiet deck, on which he could keep a bench seat and his bird aviary. He did not have an ensuite bathroom, but this never bothered him. He made many friends at the rest home, and enjoyed the variety of meals. Although washing was part of the cost, we preferred to do Dad's washing and ironing for him, so he always presented smartly. The rest home welcomed guests, and Dad was mobile for several years, making him free to leave at any time on day trips with the residents or with our family. When Dad got sick, the staff made sure he was admitted to hospital, and cared for him on his return. They dispensed his medicines, and kept a lively banter of conversation, which Dad appreciated. The staff were and still are very lovely and caring. Dad was at Forrest Hill Rest Home for about three and a half years, and passed away there in 2017 at age 93 years. The family are most grateful for the care that Dad received. He never lost his sense of humour or his dignity. Thank you to all the staff for taking care of him so well.

After recommendation from friends and viewing other rest homes on the North Shore I chose Forrest Hill Home for my mother’s care.
It was one of the few homes that could offer a room with private toilet and shower facilities three years ago. The rooms were a good size, bright and had a good outlook.
What has impressed me over the years has been the number of daily medical and support staff looking after my mother. They have always been professional with reporting, very friendly, attentive and respectful towards my mother and others in their care. There are always plenty of regular monthly and separate daily activities and I often find there are staff that are keen to join in the activities also. The cleanliness of the home and the providing of daily and special meals for the residents are excellent. The Friday fish and chips, regular concerts/events, outings, pet friendly days and Christmas dinners are always popular with the residents. These features create a homely atmosphere and visitors are always made to feel very welcome.

Highly Recommend

Our Mum, Diane, has been a resident at Forrest Hill Home & Hospital for the past four years. It is a smaller care home with a close “family feel” to it; one of the main reasons for our choice. As well as good daily care offered at Forrest Hill, there is an extensive Activities programme. The Activities coordinators encourage participation in daily socialising and go out of their way to interact positively with each of the residents. They also facilitate special events such as tea parties, visiting performers, the petting zoo, outings to local café’s and even the occasional BBQ on the deck on a fine summer’s day. Birthdays and other special occasions, such as Christmas, are extremely well catered for by Forrest Hill’s long-standing wonderful Cook who makes tasty meals and bakes delicious birthday cakes. Nursing and care staff are very approachable and Forrest Hill management welcomes contact and comment from both residents and families. The management team responds promptly to any matter raised, no matter how trivial it may seem, and their culture of open communication reassures us that Mum is in good hands.

Not impressed

Went to view the Rest Home recently. The Manager, who walked us through the place seemed more interested in telling us about the other Rest Home she managed. Got the impression she was more interested in our money rather than our Mother. Certainly won't be leaving Mum there

It is the responsibility of all staff to deliver a service to the residents that meet all requirements, standards and best practice guidelines.
Every staff member has the right and the responsibility to be part of the quality processes and is expected to be informed about contractual and personal responsibilities through training and sharing of information.

This is a safe facility in which residents can feel secure.

I just had the opportunity to review Maureen’s on-going care plan with Debbie and as we have found in the past, the on-going plan is thoughtful, caring and takes into account the many issues and challenges that Maureen faces on a daily basis. Having staff like Debbie and all of her team caring for Maureen is so reassuring to us. We just want to thank you all for your kindness to Maureen and your conscientious care.

Yesterday my mother, Jean Burgess, celebrated her 100th birthday by invitation of the staff. It was an extremely happy event and one which mum gladly rose to the occasion. Robyn and I highly commend those we know of who planned and worked hard to ensure it was a success. The Chef especially came in on a day she doesn’t normally work and other kitchen staff also to ensure that the cake and refreshments were all organized. Lifestyle Team prepared the signage, prepared the decoration of the lounge, seating and the tiara and sash for Mum to wear. Against my predictions, Mum wore both for the entire time. This 100th celebration has been a powerful example of the genuine love and care mum receives at Forrest Hill Home and Hospital. We are truly grateful for everything that has led up to this day since she became resident in December 2015.

This is both a letter of thanks and recommendation based upon the excellent care you are providing my mum, Ann Ludwig. Over the past 7 months that mum has been at Forrest Hill Home and Hospital we have been consistently delighted with the level of care provided by all the staff and wish to thank you and the entire team. I looked at over twelve rest homes and Forrest Hill stood out immediately as a place that mum would be well cared for. It is a facility that is large enough to have good resources but small enough to be very personal, attentive and most importantly has a culture where staff go out of their way to ensure residents are treated with not only great kindness, respect and care, but also encouraged to continue enjoying life in whatever capacity they can. Much is done in the facility to celebrate the individuality and personality of each resident and meet their specific personal and health care needs. From my first visit to inspect the facility to the daily visits I now make to visit mum, I have observed that amazing attitude of all the staff and managers at Forrest Hill, all of whom take time to converse and care for the residents and their families, regardless of their own individual role. I also observe the clinical and care staff in action every day and can see that they have a high level of competency, compassion and patience in dealing with what can be challenging elder health and behavioral issues. The Lifestyle programme is first rate with the team ensuring the programme is appropriate and stimulating. It is also excellent to see new innovative programmes and outings being built into the programme, based on elder care research and resident feedback being regularly sought to gauge the success and modify accordingly. From my perspective words that sum up the lived values of Forrest Hill include: kindness, compassion, patience, excellence, team work, resident safety and care.

Our Mother, Lilian Morgan, has been in the care of ‘Forrest Hill Home and Hospital’ for the past six-and-a-half years and I am more than happy to be able to say that our family are pleased with the good care she receives from the lovely nurses and carer’s who are always very respectful and always smile and say ‘Hi’ and do their very best to make sure our Mum is comfortable and okay each day.
It is so pleasant right from walking into the office each day, friendly ‘Hello’s’ and smiles means so much. It’s great too with all the nice changes the new management have made making the rest home so much more lighter and brighter with lots of flowers, lovely new drapes and nets and corners set up with comfortable chairs, like I said, ‘like home’. Everything looks and is pleasant.
Our cooks are not only beautiful but so super friendly and the food that comes out of the kitchen is ‘just like home’. Their smiles are priceless to me; it is so good to be able to put our trust in Mum’s care.

Our dearest friend was unable to cope at home on their own and Forrest Hill encapsulated them into their care without hesitation. It is so difficult for people who are ageing who have limited family members however the Forrest Hill team of carer’s provide such a family orientated approach to all their people, it makes you feel warm inside to know they are safe, happy and very healthy. Our friend praises the staff and the services he receives and could not speak highly enough of the home. For someone who has been well known as ‘difficult to please’, Forrest Hill must be amazing to meet his requests! Well done Forrest Hill, we would recommend your home to anyone who is need of genuine care and love.

The wonderful care staff in the Hospital at Forrest Hill have been very kind and special to my husband of 55 years. When Jimmy went into care I was beside myself with guilt. I still am sad that he can’t be at home with me, but the staff at his new home have been very supportive, often giving me a hug, reminding me that he is safe and that I can visit him anytime I want. I enjoy the delicious food served by the kitchen as I often share an evening meal with Jimmy and watch the news before going home. He calls me every night before bed – the staff help him to make the call. The hospital does a wonderful job ensuring Jimmy is pain free and enjoys every day. I am so very grateful that I have a happy husband and an open home who has welcomed us both into their lives.

Mental Stimulation Activities
Our Lifestyle Programme includes following mental stimulating activities that helps to improve memory, problem solving, creativity and other cognitive functions. Word Games, Crossword, Scrabble, Quizzes, Riddles, Proverbs, Trivia, Newspaper reading, Poetry reading, Short stories, Reading jokes, Tongue Twisters, Colouring books, Card games, Big print books, Word Search game, Bingo, Art & Crafts and watching movies/DVDs. We also have in-house library with varied collection of books and magazines.

Physical Activities
Exercise group (30mins session for 5 days a week), Taichi (45mins session by a trained & experienced instructor - every Fortnight), Outdoor walks to the park (2-3 times per week, weather dependent), Ball and Balloon Games (7 days a week), Chair volley, Dancing sessions, Floor games like Bowls, Skittles, Target Toss, Ring Toss and indoor walks within the facility.

Sensory Stimulation Activities
Hand massage, Foot massage, Foot Spa, Manicure, Flower arranging, Barbeque, Cooking /Baking sessions, Making Smoothies and summer drinks, Pet therapy sessions, Gardening, Aromatherapy and pamper sessions.

Social Stimulation Activities

Outings and Community Involvement
We organize group outings every week. We currently go for Shopping outings, Café outings, Beach outing and Concert outings. In the past we have organized outings to art exhibition and museum depending on the number of residents who are interested in participation. Based on the interest, some of our residents also visit community groups and go for tea outings. We organize and facilitate regular visits from schools, church groups and other community groups.

Theme days/ Festive Celebrations / Culturally Significant days
We welcome and embrace all different cultures and never miss an opportunity to celebrate it with our residents. We have been celebrating Waitangi Day, Anzac Day, Chinese New Year, Easter Celebrations, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Diwali Celebrations, Prostrate Cancer Awareness, Breast Cancer awareness, Theme days like Mad Hatters Tea Party and Island day and Christmas Celebrations.
