Habitat for Humanity is an International Christian not-for-profit organization that works in partnership with people of good will and families in need, to eliminate inadequate housing by building and/or renovating and selling simple, decent homes that have affordable repayments to selected families who cannot secure a loan or mortgage by normal means.
The organisation was founded in the USA in 1976, Habitat for Humanity New Zealand was established in 1992, and the Hawke’s Bay affiliate began operating in 1996 and has recently amalgamated with Waikato and Gisborne to form the new Habitat for Humanity Central North Island affiliate.

The Habitat For Humanity ReStore 2nd Hand goods shop has been open for over a year now and is gradually making its presence known in the local community.
The purpose of the ReStore is to help raise awareness and funds for the Hawke’s Bay Habitat for Humanity building programme.
The shop has now moved to 406 Eastbourne St West, Hastings, (down the road from Pak ‘n’ Save) open Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm and Saturday 9am – 1pm.
There has been great support so far with donations of goods and volunteers to help in the day to day running of the shop. If anyone has an hour or two to spare, or has goods to donate and would like to assist the organisation can contact the Manager.
Volunteers are an integral part of Habitat for Humanity Restores’ ‘success’, why not consider volunteering and help fund building in your local community.
