Arvida The Wood is where location meets comfort for retirement living that truly suits the character of Nelson. Whether you’re after semi-independent living or full-time care, this elegant community has a lot going for it.
Being able to stroll into Nelson’s town centre is a popular benefit for people who live at The Wood. The community is a 15-minute walk from the Nelson farmers’ market, movie theatres, a range of cafés, and all the services and shops of the CBD. Residents can also walk to Queen’s Gardens and the Suter Art Gallery in less than 10 minutes.
While The Wood has five villas for independent living, the key offering is semi-independent living in serviced apartments. These one-bedroom and studio apartments are supported by services that make it easier to live your best life. And if you need a higher level of care, The Wood has cosy rest home rooms in a purpose-built care complex.
Depending on the time of year, daily life at The Wood includes events, activities, exercise classes, happy hours, barbecues, housie and van outings organised by the community’s diversional therapists. Facilities include a hobby room, petanque court, shared vege garden, library and lounge with large-screen TV. The Wood also offers physiotherapy, podiatry and hairdressing services.

The Ministry of Health conducts regular audits of Residential Care Facilities. They can be found HERE.
NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.
In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
