I can’t afford the internet. Is there a free service I can access?
The government is aware of the ‘cost’ barrier for many people wanting information via the internet. In response they have setup the Sponsored data initiatives.
If you are a Spark, Vodafone, 2degrees, Skinny or Orcon mobile network customer you can access nominated health and the Ministry of Social Development websites, on your device without incurring data use charges. However, if you access any you tube videos or externally hosted content available through those websites then usual data charges will apply.
The scheme has funding up until 30th June 2022. It is hoped the service will continue and expand.
