Are health hubs replacing GP surgeries?

Our community health services were quite fragmented in the past, with GP services scattered around the community.

In order to create a more integrated service, meet increasing demand, manage resources well and to utilise new innovation and technology then things needed to be done differently. Over recent years many health professionals and other associated services have been working more collaboratively.

In some areas this has resulted in the establishment of health hubs where a number of doctors and health services are now situated together along with others such as pharmacy, physiotherapy, blood services, perhaps even x-ray services.

Other models have also been developed such as HealthCare Home where the way of working might be different to what you’ve experienced in the past. It draws on the expertise of all members of the health team (not just the GP) and aims to give you the right service at the right time and in a timely manner.
