NZ Relay Services are changing

You can view this information in New Zealand Sign Language here.

NZ’s Relay Services are changing in just under one week. From 1 February 2021, some people will experience changes to the way they access and use these services.

A new-look website will combine all relay services in one place, and the introduction of a new NZ Relay app for your mobile phone or tablet will mean you can stay connected when you’re on the go. This free app will be available to download from the App Store and Google Play Store from 1 February. Once available, you will be able to use it to make and receive text relay and captioned relay calls, using your mobile data or Wi-Fi connection.

To help you get familiar with this app ahead of it being available to download, you can check out the resources available on www.nzrelay.co.nz/servicechanges. These show you step-by-step how to download the app, create a NZ Relay account, and make and receive calls.

Extra support is available

We know that some people will need extra support to feel confident with these changes. If you or someone you know would like to access personalised support, please get in touch with the NZ Relay help desk today.

Please also be aware that this week and during the first few days of February, you may experience slightly longer wait times when getting your call connected to a Relay Assistant or NZSL Video Interpreter. We apologise for any inconvenience, and ask that you please have patience with our friendly, NZ-based relay team. Any delays will be temporary. Our team is here to support you and will be working hard to answer all calls as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your time and patience as we work to enhance NZ’s Relay Services.

Ngā mihi nui,
