Life on the Road – Middle North Island

Every 4 months the Eldernet team visits a different area of New Zealand so we can touch base with local communities and those in the aged care sector. This “on the ground” knowledge is invaluable, and often means we know where the best place to get a good coffee or custard square is in even the most obscure places! We thought that we should share with you all some of the amazing places and people we meet during our travels. We are currently travelling for our Middle North Island book which means we are travelling around Taranaki, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, and Tairawhiti DHBs. We look forward to seeing you all over the coming weeks!

Linda and Eleanor in Hamilton

Eleanor and Linda had a great visit with Aileen Rangi-Whaikawa-Mills at the Western Community Centre in Hamilton on 24 August when we were visiting Waikato for the Where From Here book.

Aileen is the Services Coordinator of this vibrant, multi-cultural, multi-generational community hub.

Aileen is passionate about empowering people and makes appoint of speaking to all seniors who come to the Centre.  They have recently focussed on reducing isolation, especially for the over-50s.

The Centre has a busy day program including tai chi and healthy eating.
