Giving Back: Christmas Food Drive

Residents and staff at Jane Winstone Retirement Village have shown their generous side with a recent food drive this Christmas. Over the last few weeks, residents and staff have been donating food which will be given to the City Mission’s foodbank in time for the pre-Christmas rush.

“We did it last year and it went down really well,” activities manager Rochelle Taylor said. Ms Taylor didn’t know how many items of food had been donated “but it’s a lot”.

Centre manager Sue Buchanan said she was glad staff and residents were able to do something for a good cause. “So many people are struggling. Christmas can be a really tough time,” she said.

  1. Hi Eve
A lovely article about the Christmas Food Drive
Here in Cheviot I ask the people we deliver meals on wheels too what their Christmas Day plans are and if the are alone I invite them to our Rest Home for Christmas dinner.
I also invited people who live alone in the council pensionser cottages for dinner too
Last Christmas we has only 2 extras – they are not charged for dinner andI have a small gift under our tree for them .

I hate the thought of people being home alone on Christmas Day
