Eldernet celebrates Chinese Language Week

Last month here at the offices, we celebrated Chinese Language Week (a week early) at our team day on the 17th September. We love having a multi-cultural team and we all were excited to learn from Damien, one of our talented software developers, about his home country.

We got a taster of China and learnt a number of interesting things, for example, 30,000,000 people currently live in caves, China was the first to invent paper and gun powder among other things, and that although the country traverses a number of different time zones, only Beijing time is recognised throughout the country. We were all amazed at how vastly diverse China is, and I am certain that many of us started planning our next overseas adventures there.

We also got a literal taster of some of the Chinese cuisine, and tried our hand at dumpling making – which some were more successful at than others! And were treated to a traditional tea serving ceremony lead by Damien. We also tried our hand at some basic phrases in Mandarin.  We all had an incredible day, xièxiè Damien for sharing your culture and customs with the team!
