Canterbury A&P Show 2015

One thing I’m really looking forward to this Cup and Show week is heading to the Canterbury A&P Show on Friday.

Its been a long time since I’ve been, so I’m looking forward to is the food stalls, the woodchoppers, and the farmyard area with all the animals. I have had a quick look on the website and have found some really interesting things to look forward to.

The Canterbury A&P Show has drawn in visitors every year since it started in 1863, becoming an annual ritual for many.  Beckoned by the sights and smells of the farmyard, gourmet wines and foods, exciting rides, and more.

Foodies (including myself!) will enjoy the Food & Wine NZ Pavilion. Watch cooking demonstrations from top chefs in the Electrolux Demonstration Kitchen, try gourmet foods from around the world, and taste medal-winning entries from the International Aromatic Wine Competition. To be honest, this is probably where I will spend most of my day!

In the Mike Greer Homes City Farmyard children will be able to get up close with chickens, ducklings, lambs, calves, puppies and more, a great opportunity to meet their favourite animals from the story books. Personally I like seeing the prize winning chickens – always such a variety!!

The farming community will demonstrate the results of their hard labour, bringing over 3000 animals to compete in more than 1700 classes for best in show titles and over $100,000 in prize money.  A great opportunity for city dwellers a chance to see the best cattle, sheep, alpacas, llamas, poultry, pigs and goats in the region.

The best shearers and woolhandlers in New Zealand will compete in the Shearing Pavilion, and the woodchoppers will compete in the expanded woodchopping arena.

See you all there at the Canterbury A&P Show 2015! The Show is held on 11-13 November and open from 8am – 5:30pm.

The other thing I am really looking forward to is heading along on Wednesday to “Ladies Day” at the Riccarton Park Race Course with the rest of the Eldernet team. It will be my first real time at the races and I am excited head along, sit in the gazebo, have a a few drinks and enjoy the racing with the team. The team went last year and they tell me it wasn’t the best weather so here’s hoping for some sun this year!

I’m sure you will hear all about it on the blog after next Wednesday – until then, enjoy Cup & Show week and make sure to pack the sunscreen!
