Book Review: The Wife and the Widow by Christian White

The Wife and the Widow

Christian White

RRP: $34.99

My word, this is a clever book! Set on a creepy island, which is bustling in summer with tourists, but chilling (both in temperature and atmosphere) during the off season we follow Kate and Abby who (no spoiler – it’s the title) are the wife and the widow of a murder victim.

The island, and the main characters are beautifully drawn and quite evocative – I like when I can feel empathy and emotion with the people in whose lives I’m (briefly) heavily invested in and when I can smell the sea fog and hear the creaks in the house.

Christian White’s work is a perfect mix of the psychological thriller and the murder mystery genre. The opening chapters are instantly captivating and leave you with the real hunger to discover what the heck is going on.

This novel is so brilliantly crafted that too much more detail has the potential to ruin the climactic ending. Let’s just say that for a while I was disorientated!

As you can guess I’d be highly recommending this novel and I am pretty sure it will be on best seller lists this festive season.
