“Like living in a little bit of heaven.”

“Really appreciate the dedication and friendliness of all the staff.”

“I enjoy it immensely. I like the caregivers here. They’d do anything for you. I like the meals, one of the reasons I had to come was I wasn’t cooking too well at home on my own. It’s very peaceful because we’re tucked away in the bush, it’s so quiet here.”

“It’s more social here than when I was in my own home by 10,000 times. Oh yes. When I first came in it was Christmas and I had people from all round the island call into see me when they were down here. It was my birthday the other day and I had some friends from Te Puke come into see me.”

“You get an amazing view, at night time all the street light up like a Christmas tree, that bus service is superb. Get on the bus, sit anywhere you like. Every 15 minutes it goes.”

“Doctor said you just can’t go past Wesleyhaven, it’s the carers, they are often there long term, they are very happy in their work and he recommended it highly.”

“The grounds are nice, beautifully kept, we go for walks in the warmer months. The gardens are so nicely looked after.”

“They are very good. They don’t rush. They respect mum’s likes and dislikes because even with short term memory loss she is fiercely independent. She’s got her own little room with all her things from home.”

“I do feel on the whole they are very good. It’s the carers that make it rather than the building. They all know mum by name which is so important. They make a point of using her name even if they are passing her in the hallway at least she hasn’t forgotten her own name even if she’s forgotten most other things.”

“If there are angels on earth then these girls are them. They do a marvellous job”.

“The staff are all really good, I think we’ve got a really good team here, we don’t have a high staff turnover, casuals come and go but the permanent staff seem to stay on which is really good. Some staff have been here over 20 years.”

“I think the residents get a fuller life, they appear to be very happy. A lot of them have come from living alone and they really enjoy the company, we’ve had a couple that have just come in for respite care, one’s just turned a hundred, and they’re staying permanently now, one’s just gone home, she’ll be back in a couple of weeks, before she came in she was very morbid, and they can’t believe the spring in her step now since she’s been here, so they’re looking at sending her back here and she wants to come back here.”

“We take a personal interest in the clients; the residents here are not just a number.”

We unconditionally value and honour each person as a contributing member of the community recognising that each person is an expression of a particular culture, social network, environment and life experience. We also recognise that people have spiritual, social, sexual, emotional, physical and intellectual needs throughout their lifespan.

The services are designed to enable the person to feel a sense of dignity, well being, uniqueness and a purpose for living by:

1. providing care that respects people’s independence and need to exercise control over their lives.

2. providing the opportunity for people to make and maintain meaningful relationships and supporting existing social networks and primary carer relationships.

3. supporting and encouraging the development of existing abilities.

4. creating environments that provide for personal choice, space and dignity.

5. maintaining connections with the local community.

Issues of concern

We encourage resident, friends and relations to discuss any concerns they have, at any time with staff.

Multidisciplinary/Family Meetings

We also hold a meeting with each resident and invited family member/friend and staff members every six months to discuss the resident’s care and well being. This provides an opportunity for discussion and input into the resident’s lifestyle plan for ongoing care.

Interests & Activities
Interests & Activities
The Activity Programme for Residents.

As the Hospital residents are often quite unwell, the Diversional Therapist pays even closer attention to their individual needs in consultation with Occupational Therapist. One to one time with the Therapist is planned wherever possible along with group games, sing-alongs, outings and visits from outside entertainers.

Visits from Helen and Amy (K9 friends)are always looked forward to. As shopping is sometimes not possible for hospital residents, the staff can undertake that if family and friends are not able to.

As this is home for the residents, visitors are encouraged to visit whenever it suits., Happy Hour
