Testimonials
“At my age, 86, you’ve got to be practical. After I lost my wife I was rattling around in a big family house, so I took a look at Gracelands and decided I could live here. The village can be quite social, or you can please yourself and not visit much. There are many activities available – indoor and outdoor bowls, snooker, games and crafts - but there’s no pressure to join in. I find that life is very easy now. I’ve made plenty of friends and never heard a harsh word said - this place has a good atmosphere. And I like the sense of space at Gracelands – there’s plenty of space between the villas.”
Douglas Goodfellow, Gracelands resident since 2011.

“For us moving to Gracelands was a case of making the change before you get too old. We had some reservations, but it’s turned out very good indeed. There are so many things organised for our entertainment. Like on ANZAC night we had a happy hour with a pianist – we all had a great sing along. Our manager who runs the place is absolutely marvellous.” Verna Lisk
“We quite often go away on cruises, so it’s great being able to lock up and leave knowing security is taken care of. I had a bit of a health hiccup last year, but here you get the help you need for a quick recovery. It was my son who put us onto Gracelands. We’d been checking out a couple of other places, but when we saw this place we thought ‘that’s us’ – you’re not crammed in like sardines.” Desmond Lisk.

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.

In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet. The DHB Shared Services website provides additional information about this service.
