MY Mother Jenny had been in Windermere for 5 years before her passing in July 2016.
The care and compassion given to her by Craig and his staff was excellent; She was very happy in her home away from home and enjoyed the music and activities. They provide healthy meals which she always looked forward to and her room was kept clean and tidy. I highly recommend Windermere to anyone thinking of a safe and happy place for their loved ones.
Mary Vagg.
Nearly a year ago, our much loved husband, father and grandfather began a journey that ended in him no longer being able to live independently at home. in November 2015 we were lucky enough to secure him a place at Windermere Rest home. He loves his new room and is enjoying the interaction with his carers. As a family we feel able to place complete trust in the ability of the Windermere team to value him as a person, take into account his individual quirks, and meet his needs. We feel privileged to "share" him with them.
The Doms Family.
One of our more recent arrivals had no idea what a rest home (our rest home) could be like, he had a totally different view of them and said if only he had known he would have come in much sooner.
“The bosses and staff are wonderful”.

“My mum... [can require extra attention], but I admire the way they cope with this. Windermere has a homely atmosphere, which the bigger Rest-homes don’t have”
“We have total confidence in all Staff at Windermere Home”
“Windermere Staff are very caring in the care of my relative. Windermere has a very family friendly atmosphere”
“I always feel welcome at Windermere and feel the residents are well cared for and treated”

Special Features
Special Features
Windermere is conveniently located within easy walking distance of the centre of Cambridge. With Te Ko Utu Park and Lake just across the road the home is placed in a very attractive setting. From the road Windermere looks like a well maintained, large, suburban home.

On entry you will find a well presented and maintained home decorated in subtle warm colours with a homely look about it. An attractive, sunny outdoor area has recently been created. It is fenced in a contemporary style and landscaped so that there is a nice intimacy about it.

Care is especially important to us at Windermere. As far as possible we endeavour to plan your care to accommodate your preferences. This includes things like ‘sleeping in’ ‘staying up late’ having your shower at the time of day that suits you etc. Touch and talking are very important aspects of our care. Spending time with a resident just doing their nails is an example of how this can easily be achieved. We celebrate all of life’s events with our residents, which in some instances includes holding their funeral at the home. Our residents feel this is appropriate and we are honoured to do this. We have also held weddings here!

All staff understand the high level of 1:1 care and personal standards that are required. An example of this is that at the beginning of the day it is more important to have our residents comfortably prepared for the day, and not rushed. Our residents come first so if you visit in the morning you may not find all the beds made.

Our small size and teamwork means that we do not get so tied to a routine that we can’t be flexible. If something impromptu arises we like to be able to respond.

One of our special little features is our upstairs flat. This three bedrooms flat has a kitchenette, dinette, lounge, laundry, conservatory area and outside covered porch and is suitable for those who are reasonably independent. There is a portable phone for residents use. The flat is fully supervised and is accessed via a lift.

We have prepared a comprehensive ‘Introductory Pack’ for residents which includes: on outline of what happens an your day of admission, a statement of values, an outline of what you can expect at Windermere, rights and responsibilities, informed consent, our services (including what we can and can not provide) , security, safety, valuables, insurance, payment details, confidentiality and privacy, complaints procedure, ideas for clothing, smoking policy and a phone list of community resources. We have a policy of continuous quality improvement, which means that everything we do is constantly being reviewed, implemented as appropriate and documented.

We make this a family friendly home so visitors can come and go just as they would if you were in your own home. The children of staff members often visit. They occasionally bring pets ranging recently from a pet rabbit up to a horse.

Details re Meals We accommodate all likes and dislikes and operate a four weekly rolling menu. Dinner is served at Lunchtime. With a smaller evening meal followed by desert. Our dining area is divided into two separate areas to ensure that all residents can dine in comfort and retain dignity at all times. The smaller area allows those who require assistance with eating, the privacy they need.
Staffing Details The working environment at Windermere is very important to all who work here. We are a close-knit team who laugh a lot, know how to read each other well and recognise how people feel each day. The owners are part of this team and they are as familiar and comfortable with all the tasks in the home as everyone else. Our teamwork means that we all ‘pitch in’ and help where it’s needed. There is a real sense of camaraderie and collegial support. Training is undertaken in the home during the course of the day and learning is applied in a supervised way. This means that skill acquisition can be more closely monitored. Learning audits are conducted weekly by the Registered Nurse. Medical support is provided and includes: regular assessment by Doctor, care management by Doctor as part of interdisciplinary team, urgent medical attention as required and discharge planning.
