My grandmother spent the last 21 months of her life at Remuera Care having the most wonderful time. We only wished we had been able to pursuade her to move in a year earlier. On Monday she had balloon tennis, arts and crafts and current events/general knowledge quizzes, On Tuesday there was a bus trip, Wednesday was hair day and baking, Thursday was a long bus trip and scrabble club, Friday was Mah-jong club, Saturday was arts and crafts and if she was interested in what was on, a movie and ice-cream. There were regular visits from music groups and friendly animals. There were pamper days with facials and pedicures. We quickly learned there was no point visiting nana during the week - she was too busy and wanted to make sure she was back home in time for the next activity on her schedule. There was a regular ice-cream trolley, and best of all according to nana - there was a glass of wine with dinner every night and once a week there was happy hour. There was also social events organised which families could come to. The rooms were massive - the size of a large living room, so plenty of space for several arm chairs, a china cabinet and most importantly for Nana, her card table. She was able to take all of her of her interests and hobbies and continue them in the secure and loving environment that Remuera Care offered. There was no time for her to be bored or decline. She was swept up by the staff and immersed into everything that was on offer and she flourished. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and schedule one on one time to spend with each resident. The care is very personalised and each resident is treated as an individual and as an adult, with their personalities and hobbies and interests all known and catered to by the staff. Her medical needs and dressings were all well taken care of. The meals were delicious and it was often disappointing to leave nana sitting down to a glass of wine and a delicious smelling roast meal while I had to drive home to cook dinner for my family. If you are looking for a rest home for yourself or your loved one, I cannot recommend Remuera Care highly enough. On a scale of one to ten, it scores fifteen. Don't hesitate.
