With its meandering tree-lined driveway and expansive gardens, it’s easy to see why Charles Rayner chose this location to build a home he could retire to in 1892. In a dramatic act of transformation, the original homestead was burned to the ground in the 1980s to make way for a hospital and home for the elderly.

The tree-lined drive and rose-filled gardens retain the charm of an earlier era, but once you step inside Otumarama, you’ll discover a boutique aged care home complete with spacious new Care Suites.

There’s plenty to do for those who are in the mood for recreation. We have a computer workstation, TV lounge and dining room. The activities programme includes crafts, games and quizzes, exercise groups, live music, church services, guest speakers and scenic excursions, just to mention a few. Our family even includes two cats, canaries and tropical fish.

Oceania’s award winning I Love Music programme makes it easy for you to enjoy the music you love anytime, anywhere. We help you reconnect with all your favourites, from big band to classical, by providing you with an mp3 player loaded with your own unique music playlist.

Tender Sunday roasts, hot fish and chips and scrummy homemade puddings… there’s a reason why the dining room is full before dinner! All of the above are regular features on our menu, which is packed with tasty family favourites you’d make at home. You’ll be sure to be up for second helpings!

Great care is what we do and we’ve got the accolades to prove it. Oceania’s won the supreme award from the New Zealand Aged Care Association 3 years in a row, so you can be sure you’re in good hands. When it comes to your care, you know what you like and don’t like - and we want to know too. Because everyone is different all of our residents get a personalised care plan, so from meals to medications, everything that’s important to you is covered. Otumarama provides rest home, hospital and end of life care and has choice from standard rooms to Care Suites, so no matter your needs or budget there are plenty of options.

Otumarama has a primary school on one side, an intermediate on the other and is opposite a high school. This means many of our residents have grandchildren and great grandchildren close by, making visiting easy. The suburb of Stoke is a very close knit community and friends and families are often within walking distance. There is a small shopping centre within very easy walking distance and a larger one just a little further away. It’s not uncommon for the administrator to take a wheelchair resident shopping and to the local library. Nelson Central is approximately a 7 minute drive away.
