Our focus is to provide a sense of community in a caring, consistent environment that reflects high standards.

Dietitian Yes Contracted service by Qualified Dietitian available on request or when clinically indicated. Will visit and assess residents who require professional nutritional advice and support, provide treatment plan and assist staff to achieve set goals
Kaumatua Yes Relationship with Marae and services that can assist Orongo if a resident requests a Kaumatua. Training sessions for staff undertaken to increase cultural understanding

Oxygen Management Yes Oxgyen supply is available to manage any emergency response with competent trained staff able to administer. Regular oxygen administration, ordered by the Doctor or Specialist, is provided as directed by the resident's treatment plan
End of Life/Palliative Care Yes Registered Nurse able to provide supervision and management of residents in the Rest Home area who require additional support. Senior Caregivers are trained to manage these residents needs. Support and expertise received from North Shore Hospice
Wound Care Yes Wounds are managed according to current best practice standards, using up to date medical products. Additional advice is sought from Wound Management Specialist for any complex wounds ensuring the most effective management plan is in place.
Diabetic Care Yes Registered Nurse, in liaison with the Doctor, manages all diabetic needs and is responsive to situations that can arise for people with diabetes. All Rest Home staff authorised to manage residents with diabetic needs are competency tested
Stroke Rehabilitation Yes Staff work with the Physiotherapist to develop a realistic treatment plan providing on-going support and management of the resident. Intensive rehabilitation programmes however are not achievable in this area
Infection Control Yes Orongo has an active and comprehensive programme in place that fully meets required certification standards. Staff training and on-going surveillance of potential infection issues result in prompt and appropriate response to any identified problems

May Bring Own Furniture Yes There is an appreciation that residents may like to have some personal furniture items in their room or placed in the lounge for their use. This needs discussion with the Manager so the furniture is appropriate to the available space.
Single Rooms Yes All bedrooms in the Rest Home area are single rooms, maximising privacy
Rooms suitable for a couple Yes Possible to have double bed or two singles in same room and use the other bedroom as a lounge area. Discuss with Manager

Alcohol Permitted Yes Residents are able to have their own supply of alcohol if this does not result in any problems for the resident or for other residents
Pets In Residence Yes Facility cats and birds in lounge areas
Negotiate To Bring Own Pet Yes This can be raised with the Manager and would depend on the type of animal involved. Birds and fish can be more easily managed.
Phone Access In Own Room Yes There is a portable phone for residents use. If residents want to have a phone this can be installed. Installation and ongoing costs are at the resident's expense.

Cater for under 65 yrs with Disability Yes Rest Home area can cater for the younger person with a variety of disabilities. Dependant on funding being approved.

Activity programme in place managed by Activities Coordinator and overseen by Occupational Therapist. All residents invited and encouraged to participate in activities of interest to them.
Activities include: Big print books, Aromatherapy, Board games, Canine friends, Church service, Concerts, Cooking, Craft, regular Entertainers, Happy Hour, Housie, Music, Outings, Videos.
For the more frail resident one on one activity, such as being read to, may be more appropriate.

Resident/family assisted to access Advocacy service should the need arise. Information available in "Welcome to Orongo" booklet given on admission.

Staffing qualifications and details Area managed by Registered Nurse providing care and oversight/direction of Caregiving staff. Senior Caregivers in Team Leader role in absence of RN. Active staff training to maintain highly skilled staff.
Details about meals All meals cooked on site by Orongo Food Service staff. Specific dietary needs or residents with cultural needs catered for. All meals in dining room. Menu developed in liaison with qualified Dietitian.
