PHILOSOPHY

To provide for our residents the highest standard of care, in an atmosphere of respect, dignity and love.

We recognise that every resident is an individual and as such has different needs in relation to ethnicity, spirituality, disability, gender, sexual orientation, social status and age.

Rooms (Single) Yes Our rooms are a variety of shapes and sizes. Some have handbasins in the room. They are tastefully Individually decorated and we will offer a choice of rooms if possible.

May Bring Own Furniture Yes This may depend on room size and or the size of furniture. We encourage people to furnish their rooms.
Alcohol Permitted Yes Under supervison. We do not currently have a happy hour as there is no demand for this at the moment. However we have had happy hours in the past and will reinstate this if requested.
Pets In Residence Yes One cat who belongs to the neighbour.
Phone Access In Own Room No We have portable phone which all the residents use and as we are a small rest home this has proved to be all residents have required.
Resident can adjust heating in own room Yes The night store heaters can be turned up or down as needed.
Newsletter Yes Bi-monthly, for the families of residents. The newsletter is put together by the activities person and management A number of people have input into this.
Policy for management of challenging behaviour Yes All staff are very understanding in these situations. They will refer the situation to senior staff or the manager.

We are a small family orientated rest home and can therefore offer a warm intimate family atmosphere.

We have an extensive activity programme which includes activies such as bowls, bingo, board games, quizzes and crosswords, music especially music dvds, and jigsaws.

We also have on site big print books and the library visits once a fortnight.

The Blind foundation will also visit on request and the RSA visits every Sunday. The Stroke club also hold monthly meetings.

We also have entertainers which visit regularly and children's singing groups provide concerts. We have an organ on site which is available for use. The residents also have an opportunity to participate in arts and crafts with visiting groups.

We regularly have outings in our minibus and fortnightly church services are held in our home.

We also have a pet cat on site for residents to fuss over.

Anyone can have breakfast in bed if preferred.

Details re Meals A dietitian reviews our menus which change on a monthly basis. Our residents enjoy their meals with favourite dishes being the more traditional meals especially roasts, puddings and salads. Our main meal is served at lunch time. Morning tea and afternoon tea and supper is home baking provided by our on site cook.
Staffing Details Our staff are friendly, caring and willing to please. They will do little chores for the residents such as shopping for small items and take them on special outings. Staff are trained under the ACE training programme and inservice training is provided once a month. We have some long serving staff members who have been with us since we took over Cameron House in 1991. Staff members include Registered Nurse, caregivers, cooks, cleaners, activities co-ordinator and Diversional Therapist.
