Marvon Downs resthome is based around the historic homestead built in 1931 for the Millens family 100 acre farm on Pakuranga Road. The farm has long gone but the iconic homestead (set off Pakuranga Road) is now being restored to it's original glory with extensions, decks and private gardens. This grand homestead is now a wonderful setting for our 31 residents to enjoy their twilight years. The style and grace of yesteryear is combined with all the modern conveniences of today. Allan & Linda Sargeant have owned and managed resthomes for over 14 years with the help of their dedicated long term staff. The focus is on ensuring our residents receive top class clinical care. Dignity, comfort and respect are top priorities followed closely by a recognition that activities and entertainment play a very important role in daily life.

Our extensive activities programme is planned a month in advance by our Diversional Therapist who is onsite Monday to Thursday personally engaging with and encouraging our residents. On Fridays, our activities helper ensures residents have an interesting and fulfilling day. The home has a family atmosphere with staff and visitors often joining in activities with residents.

Many of these fun moments are captured on camera and our bi-monthly Newsletter keeps everyone up to date with their loved ones and "happenings" at the home. Our Newsletter is popular with residents and families, especially family members living overseas. Requests for Newsletters keep snowballing, at this rate, our readers may soon outnumber the New Zealand Herald! At present we email copies to families and friends in London, New York, Hawaii, Sydney, Amsterdam, Switzerland and of course, all over New Zealand.

We strive to meet each resident's well being and enjoyment of life on a daily basis. Details about Meals There are two dining rooms at the home. As the abilities of the residents vary the smaller dining room beside the kitchen is for those residents who need assistance at mealtimes. Meals are tasty and generous. Cooked on site and served personally by our full time chef or part time cook.
Staffing Qualifications and Details The majority of the staff at Marvon Downs have worked here for many years and this makes for stability and continuity for residents. In several instances members of the same family are employed. A staffing ratio policy of 50% full time and 50% part time ensures holidays and sickness are covered by staff trained and familiar to the home and residents. No bureau staff are used. Separate staff are employed for laundry and cleaning duties.
What's included in your fees and what's not Please see the Manager for details. We have an information pack available on request. Our bed rate is the standard resthome bed rate for the Counties Manakau District Health Board Area.
