30 March 2017 - Just a quick note to say a very BIG thank you. I think you are amazing.
I popped in to see Rose yesterday and was lucky enough to be with her for the group crossword – so much fun.
I could not believe that Rose was joining in and really engaged. This is the best I have seen her – brought tears to my eyes.
Thank you for all your efforts and energy with Rose and all the residents – you really inspire me and bring life to everyone who lives at Maupuia.
From my heart, thank you.
Best wishes, Jill.

I am writing on behalf of myself and our family, to say thank you and explain how the transition for Sean into residential care at Maupuia Ultimate Care at Miramar.
Has been handled, so very well and we are delighted with how well Sean is doing now, it was not easy to begin with for everyone concerned, but the management and staff have gone out of there way to make Sean comfortable and dealt well with his few difficulties in the beginning and took the best decisions for Seans care.
There is a definite big effort to make the home fell like home for home, for all the residents and take time to answer questions and reassure concerned family members, its hard to after 52years together get used to john having to go into permanent residential care and getting him to accept that, so we are thankful to everyone at Maupuia concern for making that easier for everyone.

kind regards Maureen and Family.

"Where would I be without you? You help, you listen, you understand and give practical advice. No one can stop time and I hope if you ever need help, you will find angels, as I have found here. Thank you, a mere word, but very sincerely meant, to each of you, whatever uniform you wear. God Bless you and the work you do! With love J.W.

Thank you to you all for the wonderful homely atmosphere and genuine caring nature, you have truly made a difference for us all! T.P.

"Thank you all for the wonderful care you gave JM over the last four years. It was amazing as we became part of your family." ---FM and SM

"To all the lovely staff at Maupuia Lifecare. You took such good care of our mother. She had a happy time with you and was comfortable and happy. We very much appreciated all you did for her." ---W and R

Friday 16 March 2018‘Saint Patricks Day Celebrations’

Maupuia turned green for St Patrick’s day, for one of our residents who can’t be in Ireland for St Patrick’s Day. There’s just nothing like it, the whole world goes green to celebrate.  On March 16, UCG Maupuia thrums with energy and excitement for St Patrick’s Day.   So, we all pinned on our shamrocks, added hats, ties and braces plus green moustaches.   It was rather special when our Irish resident started singing the Irish songs that he remembered. Had has an amazing voice, it just bought Maupuia to a standstill while he sung.  The residents tasted and enjoyed the green icing on the cupcakes and round sponge cake that was green inside, they finished the meal with our green punch, both resident, staff and Day-care enjoyed the excitement of the day.

We strive to reawaken the fun loving side of our residents

Tuesday 15 August 2017 - ‘India Independence Day Celebrations’

Ultimate Care Maupuia went all out in their celebrations for India Independence Day yesterday. The team surprised residents by transforming the lounge in to a Bollywood film set in the morning and wearing sari's for the day. Later on the dining room became an Indian banquet, and in the afternoon the lounge was reset as a cricket oval. Entertainment for the day included Indian dancers, a Bollywood movie, a documentary on India and an afternoon cricket game. A very memorable and fun day for both residents and staff!

Monday 10 July 2017 - Balloon Noodle Antics’

There are some things we have found at UCG Maupuia that transcend age groups that’s have fun no matter what age you are. We’ve been having resistance from our residents, not wishing to participate in our exercise classes, most residents don’t like to exercise. Today we have managed to change that by introducing ‘Balloon Noodle Antics’.  This has become such a popular game we now play it weekly

This game can be played in so many different settings, with many different ability levels, and it is a good exercise. It can be easily graded to work on multiple skills, such as standing and sitting balance, improved respiratory health, upper extremity strength with overhead reaching and hand eye coordination.

Our residents normally sit in a circle in the lounge, with their different coloured noodles (they picked their colours).  We then add the 3 balloons and we are off.  We started off with a base core of residents, with the music of Tina Turner ‘Simple the Best’ playing in the back ground.  We found that we double in the number of residents participating as they come out to investigate what was going on.  It was great to see how completive the residents are, the smiles and laugher as they missed or hit the balloons and how they watched and congratulated other residents when they managed to hit the balloons. We run it now on the days that we have our fantastic fun loving day program group.

Balloon Noodle Antics only requires the large 60cm balloons, these are easy to hit, come in bright colours and they bounce, so there are airborne longer.  We have used pool noodles in bright colours cut in half for each team member.

Monday 12 June 2017

Our residents at Ultimate Care Maupuia had a couple of special guests join them on Monday morning to visit the facility and they also help with the group activity, the weekly crossword puzzle.  Annette King, retiring Member of Parliament, chose to stop by the facility who she has visited a number of times throughout her career.  She was joined for the visit by Paul Eagle, Deputy Mayor of Wellington.  They not only help solve the crossword puzzle but gave out the prizes to with winners.  Annette also gave a short but very funny speech about her time in Parliament and introduce her successor Paul Eagle.

Stuart Clarke is a multi-talented New Zealand based singer songwriter who has been part of the NZ scene for more than a decade.

His professionalism coupled with his consistent live performances make him one of the most sought after musicians in the country.

Being blessed with a wonderfully rich bass-baritone voice, often said to be comparable to the late great Johnny Cash, he is an undeniable talent in the music scene. Stuart regularly performs at live music venues and for Weddings and Corporate functions in his home town of Wellington and also in other cities such as Auckland and Queenstown.

We had a very special concert at Maupuia with a very proud father in the audience.  His singing bought the residence alive with his amazing baritone voice.
