A specialist dementia care unit was opened in early 2016.

Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers Yes We have an experienced team of Healthcare Assistants who are required to completed the Aged Care Education Programme and attend regular in-service training.
Physiotherapist 8 Yes Provides assessments and reviews every Tuesday - can provide a limited range of interventions that can be self-directed by clients. Private Physiotherapists are available and visit by own arrangement.
Occupational Therapist 16 Yes Contracted to this Unit and visits on a Tuesday and Wednesday each week.

Activities Co-ordinator 30 Yes 2 Activity Co-ordinators, working Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 3pm. They organise a range of activities from scrabble,bingo,sit dancing,movies and bus trips twice a month. One on one sessions are also arranged for clients with particular needs.
Hairdresser Yes Private Hairdresser comes once a week on Wednesdays for mens haircuts and will do a variety of options for the ladies. Prices available on request. Own hairdresser welcome to visit.
Podiatrist Yes Visits are usually 6 weekly at a cost of $34.50. unless medically prescribed (diabetics/ certain conditions) which are paid for by the hospital.
Dietitian Yes Visits organised when clinically indicated.
Kaumatua Negotiable
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes Visits once a month from NZ Church of Christ and St Johns the Evangelist Anglican Church. Catholic Priest visits weekly. Representatives of other denominations also visit.
