Welcome to our Dementia Unit - Oban. We have a spacious, light and welcoming unit servicing 10, D3 beds. Inquiries are always welcome - please contact our Manager, Jan 03 208 9440.

Registered Nurse 36 Yes Scott Morrissey is our Team leader and currently works 4 to 5 days a week including weekends, mornings and afternoons.

Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers 40 Yes We have an experienced team of Careworkers focused in giving the best care to our Residents.
Physiotherapist 4 Yes Our Physio, Lee, comes up once a week on a Tuesday
Occupational Therapist 15 Yes We have a Therapy Aide working 15 hours per week assisting Residents with walking and exercising
Diversional Therapist 30+ No We have a Diversional Therapist, Roszanne, who works up to 6 days a week to meet the requirements
Activities Co-ordinator 10 Yes Two of our ladies, Coleen and Bernadette, between them work 5 hours per day, 7 days a week. When they aren't participating in the Activities they are very experienced caregivers in the Oban area.
Hairdresser 8 Yes Our hairdresser, Pauline, comes in each Thursday and is available for hair appointment, however, if the Resident has a preferred hairdresser, they are also welcome to come in and use our hairdressers salon.
Podiatrist 6 Yes Podiatrist, Rachel comes in once a fortnight and will check on Residents
Dietitian 4 Yes Dietitian, Renee, comes in monthly and will check on Residents, and is available on request

Kaumatua Yes Our local Marae is very supportive
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor 8 Yes We have a Pastoral Worker, Russell Scott who comes in twice a week. Prue Beale comes in for communion once a week

Pets In Residence No While none of the Residents have pets, there is a resident cat, Sally, who lived in the Oban unit. We also have two fish tanks. Often visitors will bring in their pets and take them around for the Residents to see and pat

Phone Access In Own Room Yes Alot of the Residents have their own phones, which they have installed and pay for. This is generally set up by a family member
Resident can adjust heating in own room Yes All rooms have radiators which adjust up and down. If the Resident is unable to adjust it, the staff are happy to help
Maori Kaupapa Yes We are lucky with the support we receive from the local Marae
Residents Committee Yes There is a Residents meeting once a month, which can be attended by the family members as well.
Family Committee Yes Quite often families will request a meeting with Jan with any concerns over their family member. Jan is always available to meet with families
Newsletter Yes A newsletter goes out 3 times a year to the Resident and their next of kin

Lounges/seating areas Yes We have a lovely lounge just in the entrance door to Oban. Also the main lounge where the Residents and guests spend alot of their time
Outings Yes There are outings planned for every week and the Residents are always keen to get out and about
Rural Setting Yes Although Resthaven is situated on the main street in Gore, it has lovely views out onto the farm hills. There is plenty to see with the changing colours of the trees and hills
Smokers Room Yes Currently we have a smokers room at Resthaven
Smoking Permitted Yes Smokers go outside or in the smokers room
Semi-Secure Yes The main doors are closed at 5.00pm with a bell for families to ring to get in. There are only three outside doors, two onto the car park and one facing Hokonui House. The other outside doors are all enclosed in the centre of the building
Sprinklers Yes Resthaven has a complete sprinkler system throughout the building

Special Features
Our Unit is very family orientated and we find the families enjoy each others company. Visitors always comment on the lovely atmosphere down there.

Our staff are all educated in Dementia Care and are compassionate dedicated people.

Public Transport   Unfortunately, Gore does not have public transport, however, Resthaven has a van which is available to take Residents up shopping once a week. Taxi's are also available
Shops 2.00 km Nearest Dairy is 100 metres along the Street. Caltex Service Station across the Street.
Mall 2.00 km Gore does not have a Mall, but our shops all all relatively close, so easy enough to get around them all walking
Parks 1.00 km We have lovely parks, with children's swings etc, a deer park and a small drive out of town to Dolamore Park where many families go - it's a nice drive
Library 3.00 km We have a great library in the north part of town but Resthaven also has its own small library and the lady from the library visits often to update books
