This purpose
built Rest Home and Continuing Care Unit is located in Halls Road
at the south end of Pahiatua on land donated by Mr and Mrs Hughes,
whose family were early settlers of this area. It
is surrounded by park-like grounds, bordering a farmlet, where residents
can view wildfowl life, and animals.
The complex
has 58 beds in total, - 18 in the Continuing Care Unit, 9 Special
Needs and Alzheimer, 29 stage 2, and 2 G.P beds. The home
also caters for day care and convalescing patients, along with patients
requiring alternative care. As well as the Rest Home it has
a Villa Complex, consisting of ten nicely appointed units for purchase.
Waireka is a
Trust Home, managed by a Board, consisting of our Patron Judge David
Carruthers, and 12 Board Members, some of these members are elected
by the community, some are appointed to represent community organisations.
The home is supervised by a Care Manager, who is a Registered Nurse
with up to 80 staff members under their leadership, many of whom
also have their nursing certificate. These staff are dedicated
to provide absolute quality care in this pleasant and modern environment,
with a philosophy of recognising each resident as an individual,
ensuring they receive the respect and dignity each one deserves,
and encouraging them to maintain a link with the community in which
most of them once lived.
