Hairdresser Yes Our hairdresser visits once a week and usually spends half a day here. These services are provided at the resident's own cost.
Podiatrist Yes Our podiatrist visits once every six weeks and these services are fully funded.
Dietitian Yes We access a dietitian through Grey Hospital. She has input into the menus and assists with specific resident's needs.
Accredited Visitors No We have regular visits from the RSA and many other friendly locals.
Kaumatua Negotiable We have access to Maori cultural groups and will endeavour to respect all cultural differences.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Negotiable We can access a chaplin through the various church groups which visit and will do this as individual residents need this.
Other Personnel Yes Chris the cook has been employed for 15 years here and is well known and liked by the residents (probably because of his home baking!). Gardener Brian also enjoys working in the garden with the assistance of some of the residents.

Interests & Activities

We have an extensive and varied activity programme which includes , Aromatherapy, Art, Bingo, Board games, Bowls, Canine friends, Cards, Care and Craft, Church, visiting Childrens groups, Classical Music, Concerts, Craft, Cooking, Entertainers, Exercises, Flower arranging, Games, Gardening, Happy Hour, Housie, Hydrotherapy in the local public pool, Indoor Games, Jigsaw, Library visits, Massage, Movies, Music, Newspaper reading, Organ, Outings, Parties, Pianist, Quizzes, Reading, Shopping, Sing-a-longs, Sky TV and Videos.

We have outings at least three times a week with varied destinations and activities to do. These sometimes include shopping trips and usually include morning or afternoon tea out and about.
We also have on site a BBQ, lots of big print books, email, fax, internet access and picnic facilities.

We have lots of roses in our gardens and residents are welcome to help out with the gardening.

All residents are able to have breakfast in bed.

Other organisations we have contact with for the residents are an advocate, Age Concern, Alzheimer's Society, Blind Foundation, Golden Oldies, Greypower, Lions, Parkinson's Society, Rotary, Senior Citizens, Stroke Group and the Womens Institute.

Details re Meals Menus change on a five weekly basis with a dietitian's input. Our main meal is served at 12 midday and some of our most popular meals are corned beef, apricot chicken and roasts to name a few. Morning and afternoon tea and supper are all prepared by Chris the cook who does a range of delicious home baking. Breakfast in bed is provided and is a continental breakfast with a choice of toast and spreads and/or cereals. Residents can also help themselves to tea and coffe and fruit at anytime.
Staffing Details Ratios of staff to residents differ on different shifts and in different wings. With our less dependent residents we have a ratio of 23 residents to 3 staff members during the day and with our more dependent residents we have a ratio of 18 to 5 staff members. We have many long serving staff members with several having been here over 16 years. Most have been here around 8 years. We run the ACE training programme to ensure that the staff are fully equip to meet your needs.

Mall 0.30 km We are situated very close to the main shopping area in Hokitika which has a variety of shops.
Parks   Cass Park is directly across the road. It has a rugby field and a children's playground. Residents regularly take a walk across to the park.
Library 0.50 km Hokitika Public Library is close by. We also have a volunteer who comes in and provides an exchange service for residents.
