Wesleyhaven - Strand Home

Facility Image
Strand Home
Strand has 54 rooms arranged on two levels joined with the communal dining room and lounge. The layout is the traditional concept of each resident having their own bedroom with a hand basin and sharing bathroom facilities. There is a wonderful relaxed environment at Strand evidenced by many of the residents choosing to sleep in, have breakfast in bed and take a more leisurely start to the day which works well for the staff too tending to so many residents at such a busy time.

The programme of activities is pivotal to developing a strong community and events are held almost daily to ensure residents get to know each other and build friendships. Many of the residents are unable to go out unsupported so the outings too provide a welcome break for the residents to enjoy events in the local community and further afield. The staff enjoy a good team culture and some have worked here for 10, 20 plus years which is a wonderful reflection on their committment to their chosen work. Residents can retain their own GP or attend the twice-weekly offered by our contracted GP.

As mobility and activity are encouraged, the Recreation Co-ordinator designs and implements an enjoyable and interesting programme. There is a great variety of activity from visiting entertainers to outings and indoor activities. With a large number of residents, the range of activity has to be equal in size to meet the needs and includes:

Health support and advocacy groups - Age concern, Alzhemer's Society, Arthritis Society, Foundation of the Blind, Parkinsons' Society, Returned Services Association and Stroke Foundation, etc

Entertainment such as dancing, sing-alongs, weekly Happy Hour and a range of visiting entertainers .

Support such as big-print books, Canine Friends, church activity, exercise and activity programme including Tai Chi, newspaper reading, shopping trips, outings, Sky TV, films and videos.

Activities and events such as baby Day, blackberries, barbeques, board games, bowls, cards, cooking, crafts, games, gardening, housie, indoor games, parties, quizzes and special events.

Residents are encouraged to continue involvement in their interests wherever possible and we are proud of the achievements of one resident who has exhibited art at The Dowse Gallery.
