May Bring Own Furniture Yes Rooms are furnished but we are happy for residents to bring in their favourite pieces. We encourage them to bring in their photos, paintings, lazy boys and anything that makes it feel more like home.
Single Rooms Yes Every room at Observatory Village care centre is a single room with full ensuite.
Ensuite Yes The ensuites include a walk-in shower, vanity and toilet. Lovely and spacious, able to have a wheelchair or shower chair in the shower.
Alcohol Permitted Yes We have 'happy hour' once a week in the Community Centre Lounge as a social event. Alcohol where appropriate is permitted in Resident's Rooms.
Pets In Residence Yes A small number of residents have cats
Phone Access In Own Room Yes Residents can choose to have their own telephone line -just like at home. This must be set up through the village. They are responsible for the monthly line rental and call costs. There could also be a set up charge.
Resident can adjust heating in own room Yes We have underfloor heating. Some residents choose to have a heater in their room. If heaters are brought in by a resident these need to be checked before being used. If they require "electrical tagging" this cost will be on-charged to the resident.
Cater for under 65 yrs with Disability Yes On a case by case basis. This is usually arranged with the social workers at the Oamaru Hospital and the NASC team in Dunedin
Lounges/seating areas Yes There are two large dining and lounge facilities - both with large flat screen TV's. The community centre has a library with two computer stations. There are lots of lovely outdoor seating areas to enjoy the sun.

Confused Residents Yes We do take confused residents and they can stay with us for as long as they and their families are happy with the care. We will recommend that they be moved if their condition deteriorates and their (or others) safety becomes a concern.
Rural Setting No We have views of the sea and the Kakanui mountain range.
Smoking Permitted Yes Residents have the right to smoke. Not many do and if one does smoke they can only do this outside and for as long as they are safe.

What's included in your fees and what's not Full fees and what the fees do not include can be accessed by ringing Observatory Village and asking for a pack to be sent out. Due to the government changing the cap for Subsidy payment it is difficult to give this information in this forum.
Staffing qualifications and details We have 12 Registered Nurses, leading a team of dedicated Care staff. Training Care Staff to deliver excellent care is an important focus for Observatory Village.
Details about meals Our meals are delicious! All food is prepared in our own kitchen on the premises. We can cater for different dietary needs such as diabetics and vegetarians.
