Nazareth is a stage two rest home providing a high standard of professional and holistic care for elderly residents.

Vision Statement:
Nazareth Rest Home is based on Christian principles which
recognise and respect the value of each person and
acknowledge their wealth of life experience.

Nazareth provides excellent nursing care and opportunities for social, intellectual and spiritual growth for each resident.

The Home continues, in the spirit of the Sisters of St Joseph, to encourage residents to live fully, offering hospitality and openness to the wider community.

One standard room is under refurbishment and will be ready 13 February. This sunny room has outstanding views over the city and down the Whanganui River. The other is an upstairs bedroom with en suite and has views down the valley.

Activities Co-ordinator Yes Marion has lists of volunteers who help her when she needs an extra pair of hands. We appreciate the contribution made by our volunteers who really seem to enjoy being part of Nazareth

May Bring Own Furniture Yes Residents are welcome to bring their own bed and a selection of their own furniture. So long as it fits the room without causing any obstructions.
Alcohol Permitted Yes We have Cocktail hours regularly. There is no policy governing alcohol for residents and many have drinks with friends and family or other residents.
Pets In Residence Yes There is a resident cat - Tinkerbell - and the sometimes one of the hairdressers brings her small dogs with her.
Phone Access In Own Room Yes All rooms have telephone cables but the onus is on the resident to organise the connection
Resident can adjust heating in own room Yes With reservations depending on circumstances. Most heaters are set at a reasonable temperature to maintain a comfortable heat for all.

Residents Committee Yes We do not have a Residents Committee, but the residents all meet six weekly to discuss issues and plan events. An advocate attends these meetings which is chaired by the Diversional Therapist, with a 10 minute input by the Manager.

The wetlands, a special feature that is encouraging the return of native life - a reflective place of peace and calm and so enjoyed by the more active residents and their families.

Details re Meals Meals are cooked on site and the menu is reviewed annually by a dietician.
Staffing Details We have a Registered Nurse on duty 7 days/week from 8am-5pm. She is also on call in the evenings. A qualified Diversional Therapist provides a 5 day/week daycare and activities programme.
Associated Complexes Quinlan Court is another facility owned by the Sisters of St Joseph which provides support for independent elderly. For more information please refer www.ssj.org.nz.
