| One of the things that the owners of Marvon Downs like to hear from their residents following an outing is; ‘We’re home now’. These simple words speak volumes. The owners say; “We know that sad things do happen for people”, but they encourage people to enjoy the present and are pleased to be able to add; “there’s more laughter here than a comedy show”. The most important special feature of the home is the people. Residents speak well of the staff and the staff of each other and the residents.
Marvon Downs is a small Heritage home located on interesting Pakuranga Road. The home is well set back off the road with the perimeter being semi secure. The notable large palm which is a landmark gives shade over the expansive decking. The deck area offers glimpses of the road between the shrubbery and is used in summer for alfresco dining. This is an interesting area for residents and visitors to enjoy. The owners who took over the home in late 2004 Ross and Julie say the home is operated by a wonderful and able team. There have been significant renovations of late including repainting and restoration, interior refurbishment (including new furniture and furnishing), garden and exterior upgrades. |
|
The activities programme is operated by the activities co-ordinator under the oversight of a trained Diversional Therapist. The Diversional Therapist comes to the home 1-2 monthly and when new residents are admitted to assess their individual needs and organise programmes.

| Details re Meals | There are two dining rooms at the home. As the abilities of the residents vary the smaller dining room beside the kitchen is for those residents who need assistance at mealtimes. Meals are tasty and generous. | |
| Staffing Details | The majority of the staff at Marvon Downs have worked here for many years and this makes for stability and continuity for residents. In several instances members of the same family are employed. The owners are impressed by the giving nature of the staff and comment on how encouraging it has personally been to see so many people committed to the older people in their local community. Examples of this goodwill are a volunteer who comes in each week to serve cakes at afternoon tea and staff members who do voluntary work on their days off. Separate staff are employed for laundry duties. | |
