Gladys Mary Rest Home is a happy, homely place where you will soon make new friends and enjoy the warm, caring atmosphere.

Our rest home is light, bright and very comfortable. It's set on a quiet, residential street that's just an easy walk to Tamatea Shopping Centre and Anderson Park.

Gladys Mary is part of the Bupa group of rest homes, hospitals, retirement villages and personal medical alarms. We are a private company, and because we have no shareholders, we can invest what we earn to make improvements that help us provide better care.

Special Features
Our home is located in a quiet residential area. We have gone through a large redevelopment. The house has been completly redecorated. The residents rooms have been modernised. We have lovely sunny and shaded outside living areas which include a residents' vegetable garden. Our spacious, warm lounge comes complete with a Sky TV and a piano for singalongs and this is located next to our large activities room.

Bupa Care Services is one of New Zealand's leading aged care providers. We offer a continuum of care, with personal medical alarms, retirement villages, rest homes, hospitals and dementia care. Care of people with dementia is our speciality. We take pride in adopting the best international approaches, and adapting them to our New Zealand ways.

We are also able to offer respite and carer relief for older people.

Bupa Care Services is a New Zealand company, part of the Bupa group, based in the UK. We are a private company, with no shareholders. As such, our primary concern is for our residents, with surpluses reinvested to enable Bupa to continually enhance our care.

Interests & Activities

Our Qualified Diversional Therapist runs a range of enjoyable and interesting activities for our residents.

Activities include crosswords, quizzes, bingo, board games, exercise classes, floor and ball games, bowls, craft and cooking sessions, music, entertainment, dancing groups, Brownies and children visits, library service, DVD and movie times, special interest speakers, prayer groups and animal visits from the SPCA.

We hold Happy Hours and Singalongs which family members are welcome to attend. We also have activities with other Rest homes where our residents enjoy bowls and quiz challenges. Van outings, picnics, RSA Afternoons, Shopping Trips and Mystery Bus Trips are all regular features of life in our home. Regular theme days are held e.g. Easter, St Patricks Day, Mothers and Fathers Day, Christmas, etc

Residents are also welcome to be actively involved in garden projects which include maintaining the vegetable and flower gardens.

We have weekened activities including Bingo, movie afternoons and sing along.

Details re Meals Our menu is reviewed at least every 2 years, and is audited by a registered dietitian. We offer a 6 week cycle and run a Summer and Winter menu to offer variety and celebrate special occasions. Individual needs, likes and dislikes can generally be catered for. All our meals are cooked on site.
Staffing Details Our home is fully staffed so residents always a familiar face around them. This provides person centred care.
