Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers Yes We have many trained Healthcare Assistants who care for our residents. They are very passionate about what they do and how they do it. Our residents are cared for by people who genuinely care.
Physiotherapist Yes We have a qualified Physiotherapist who ensures that mobility is retained and often improved. She will put a program in place that best suits the needs of the resident individually.
Occupational Therapist Yes Accessed as required through the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board.
Own Social Worker Negotiable These are accessible through the local District Health Board.
Activities Co-ordinator Yes Tania Lark is new to the Otumarama team and is passionate about providing social opportunities to our residents with in the facility as well as the community. Tania also recognises the need to exercise every part of the body including the mind.
Hairdresser Yes We also have a hairdressing salon. Petina is our hairdresser, she has been working at Otumarama since it has opened. Petina does a wonderful job pampering the residents.
Podiatrist Yes Our podiatrist is contracted and visits every six weeks to ensure that residents podiatry needs are met.
Dietitian Yes Oceania Group has a contracted Dietitian, Jessica Bowden is available for clinical assessments and to monitor resident nutritional intake and weight stability.

Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes At Otumarama we have interdenominational services held regularly which caters for all residents spiritual needs.

Under 65 yrs with Disability Yes Is available for Under 65yrs. We have some residents under 65 years who live at Otumarama. We have activities that are aimed a younger group of residents.
Day Care Yes Although we do not have a subsidised daycare contract, we are able to provide carer support funded daycare if required. We provide daycare support for individuals at hospital level care.
Short Term Care e.g. Carer Support, Respite Care Yes We have a lovely larger than average room that is available for respite or short term care
Carer Support/Respite Care Booking Facility Yes Unlike many other facilities we have a dedicated respite care room and are able to take bookings many months ahead. We are taking bookings for the Christmas Period currently.

Palliative Care Contract Yes We work closely with the Nelson Pallative care service. We have initiated the 'Liverpool Care Pathway' system of Palliative care with support from the Nelson Hospice Service. Oceania also has a Specialist Liverpool Care of the Dying Pathway Nurse.
Palliative Care Provided Yes The Liverpool Care of the Dying Pathway was initiated at Otumarams early in 2010. This is working well and reports from families indicate that the programe was much appreciated with information provided to them at all stages of the dying process.
Whanau Room Yes Including television, DVD player, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities.
Rooms (Single) Yes All of our rooms are large and have views of the gardens or courtyards through either large windows or patio doors.

Confused Residents Yes Some of our residents do have have some degree of confusion, however this does not impact on their quality of life at Otumarama.

Outings Yes We have an activity programme which includes regular outings. We have recently started a 'Mens Group' where the members chose their activities or outings.
Rural Setting No Although not rural, we are down a long driveway and very private with beautiful grounds and courtyards. In peaceful setting with a stream meandering alongside.
Smokers Room Yes We have a residents courtyard where smoking is allowed. There is no smoking inside the facility.

Sprinklers Yes Our resident areas are fully sprinkler covered. We have regular drills around fire safety and have smoke alarms in all areas also.

Special Features
Otumarama has undergone some changes recently, including refurbishment of some rooms. These rooms are modern, have external access to either courtyards or the recently lanscaped gardens. Two of the rooms also have their own patio, patio furniture is included. All refurbished rooms have wall mounted flat screen televisions adding to the enjoyment factor. We welcome enquiries.

Details re Meals Rotating 6 weekly varied menu. Residents are encouraged to dine in the dinning room as this is an opportunity for social interaction. Should a resident choose to dine in their room this is also acceptable.
Staffing Details 24 hour care, with RN on each shift + Care staff. Full Laundry and Kitchen facilities supplied. Facility Manager who is a Registered Nurse with extensive AT&R experience. Clinical Leader, Jackie, who has a wealth of nursing experience over many years.Administration & Diversional Therapist Mon-Fri + Physiotherapist available regularly.
Associated Complexes We are part of the Oceania Group of care facilities.These are Whareama, Green Gables, Omaio Village and Woodlands, all in the Nelson region.
