| Ngati Porou Hauora was established in 1995 to deliver local solutions to local health needs. The growth in the service resulted in the transfer of Te Puia Hospital and the associated community health facilities to Ngati Porou Hauora in 1999. Today as a Primary Health Organisation, Ngati Porou Hauora delivers a wide range of services including: dental, maternity, physiotherapy, Auahi Kore, Maori mobile nursing team, community mental health, community support services, outpatients, Waka Hauora (mobile surgical services) and problem gambling.
Our services for older people include support services in the community and residential care beds at the hospital. Ngati Porou Hauora is a service grounded in local history and tikanga. For example Kaumatua and Kuia come to Te Puia daily to use the restorative healing powers of the mineral pool. It is also not unusual to hear waiata and see whanau providing personal care for their own. We offer holistic health services to all residents of the east coast so whilst local Maori people feel comforted by being close to whanau, marae and other Kaumatua, everyone is welcome and supported according to their own values. Our staff provide excellent care and are inviting, accessible and warm people. |

| Details re Meals | We are able to provide for individual dietary requirements. Our staff members know how to cook and present local delicacies which are looked forward to by many residents. | |
| Staffing Details | As a Primary Health Organisation Ngati Porou Hauora enjoys the skills of a wide range of health professionals, allied professionals, caregivers and supporting personnel. There is always a doctor and registered nurse on duty. The ratio of caregivers to residents is low. Every resident has their own key care worker. The careworker has responsibility to care for that person, take care of their belongings and clothing etc. Most of the time the care is 1:1 so for example when outings are undertaken the careworker goes with the resident to attend to their needs. | |
