We belive that all care and services must be delivered with compassion, professionalism amd empathy, and practice of a continuum of Quality Assurance and Improvement.

To be able to live in an environment surrounded by ones own belongings, be close to relatives and friends, to personal privacy, and to sympathetic understanding and respect. It is our endeavour to provide the environment to fulfilthe emotional, social and spiritual needs of all residents, as they would desire.

Interests & Activities

We have a monthly activity program designed by the Diversional Therapist. This program is geared to meet the need of the individual.

Everybody is given information in their welcome pack to include how to acess a patient's advocate, and how they can complain.

We are able to access the Alzheimer's Society for anybody that is interested or looking for a support group.

Anybody interested in doing art, would be able to be helped by our Diversional Therapist.

We have regular BBQ's through the summer months.

We have some big print books within the home and would be able to access more from the local libraries.

We have a weekly bingo/housie game every Thursday with prizes of lollies, fruit and scratchies.

We are able to acess the blind foundation for anybody requiring this service.

Board games are on offer through our activity program and through our diversional therapist.

We can play bowls within the home and occasionaly go to other homes for inter-resthome bowls competions.

Breakfast in bed is an option that can be offered at Athenree Resthome and Hospital.

Canine friends are something that can be negotiated at Athenree Resthome and Hospital. We have several resident birds and two resident cats and one hospital dog day.

We have a weekly 500 game organised by David Wilson the maintenance man. Other regular card games are included in the Activity Program.

Two of our residents go regularly to Care and Craft in Katikati.

We don't have a chapel within our facility but we have Amanda Bradley come and take a monthly communion service and is available as required.

Children are welcome in the home as visitors. We occasionally have talent quests performed by children, or visiting children groups within the home like brownies or kindergarden groups.

We don't have a church attached to our facility but we have a monthly communion service. We endeavour to organise transport to church services for those that wish this.

Concerts - through November/December we have had lots of concerts put on by different organisations. Through this coming year we hope to have different groups come in regularly to entertain the residents.

Over this past year cooking and crafts have been a regular part of our diversional program.

This coming year we are going to have our exercise program running four days a week.

Any one interested in flower arranging is encouraged to help with arranging flowers around the home.


We do have a fax available in the home for anyone wanting to keep with family and friends.


We have a large area outside our home with gardens and grassed areas for people to wander and ponder in.

Happy hour occurs regularly at 4 pm every afternoon without fail.



Athenree Resthome and Hospital is connected to the internet so residents can acess emails.

Massages are offered through our diversional therapy program along with foot spa's.

Athenree Resthome and Hospital has a van which is used regularly to take residents on outings.

Incorporated into our diversional program is the possibity of going to the movies depending on want the residents want.
