The Nurse Maude Hospice Palliative Care Service consists of a multidisciplinary team committed to providing holistic and supportive care to people who are living with a progressive illness, and for whom curative treatment has come to an end.

The service supports and integrates physical (tinana), social (whanau), emotional (hinengaro), and spiritual (wairua) aspects of care to help the dying person and their family/whanau attain a culturally acceptable quality of life.

The service provides grief, loss and bereavement support to patient and families/whanau before during and after death.

The Nurse Maude Hospice is a short-term (usually 1-2 weeks) 11 bed facility. We accept patients after they have been assessed as meeting our criteria for admission by one of the Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialists or a public hospital ward.

These patients may be admitted for a short time for symptom control, respite or terminal care and then return home.

If they are unable to return home after this period of 1-2 weeks, members of the multidisciplinary team will help the patient and family, whanau to consider the options for longer term care i.e private hospital care.
