YWCA Neighbourhood Kitchen
| Our service provides not just a meal, but also a daily contact. This often enables people to remain longer in their homes and familiar surroundings. Drivers are obviously able to notify us if deteriorating health etc is obvious and we contact the person whose name has been given to us for that purpose. For information or to order meals please phone between 9am and 1pm. People may ring and order independently or Doctors, Community Workers, Hospitals, Nurse Maude, District Nurses, Families, Friends and Neighbours may contact us referring people to our service. We require the name of the contact person but do not operate a formal screening process. The kitchen pays for its staff and cost of food by charging modest prices. It is supported by Volunteers, drivers, telephone helpers, committee members, local church and community groups, co-ordinators and visitors who may visit the elderly. | The kitchen supplies meals Monday to Friday excluding public holidays to the elderly, sick or disabled. Meals are delivered hot or cold at mid-day by volunteer drivers. Frozen meals are available for weekends or holidays and will be delivered on request. COSTS: $5 small main meal, $5.50 regular main meal, $6 large main meal, $1.50 dessert, $6 frozen medium meal, $7 frozen large meal. We follow a six week menu. The following is a sample: MONDAY Savoury Mince, Apricot Crumble. TUESDAY Steak and Kidney, Raspberry Lamington. WEDNESDAY Meat Loaf, Steamed Pudding. THURSDAY Corned Beef, Cheesecake. FRIDAY Roast Lamb & mint sauce, Trifle. |
