Service Description
INTRODUCTION

We offer a comfortable caring alternative environment for Adults who do not want to use Rest Homes for their Daycare.

The Daybreak concept of providing support to adults who have a disability and their caregivers is innovative in that we offer a range of options that can be tailored to meet your individual requirements.
Whether you want to access our day care on a casual basis, for half a day or a permanent weekly program, we can work with you to design the right package. We start with your need, not our program.

OUR FACILITY

On entering our facility you will find that it is laid out in such a way as to create various living spaces. This allows people to move freely about Daybreak just as they would in their own home. There are several lounges that are furnished with attractive and comfortable suites and chairs, special ornaments, tapestries, books, flowers and other ‘nic nacs’ that make a place a home. One of the lounges has a TV. A bedroom with two day beds provides a quiet place where folk can have a rest or where they can be cared for if they are feeling poorly. Each lounge has a variety of magazines and books if you choose to spend some time reading. The office over looks the larger, dining, hard floor area that we also use for games, entertainment and more active pursuits. The well-equipped main kitchen is centrally located, however there is a smaller kitchen located off one of the lounges that people are welcome to use. There is a special area with a bowling mat set up where you are able to sit down to bowl. There are four bathrooms and toilets located in various places throughout Daybreak. This means if you need to spend extra time in the bathroom, then you can do this uninterrupted. We also have a full disability access wet area shower. We take pride in the homely, welcoming appearance of Daybreak.

OUR CARE

We believe that one of the keys to happiness is maintenance of good health. Where necessary we can support and monitor your health care. For example we can administer your medication or assist you with showering and personal cares if this is required. Even if you are feeling poorly we may be able to care for you here and don’t discourage you from attending Daycare . The exception to this however is, if you have something that if passed on to others and may compromise other people’s health e.g the flu. If you require more intensive nursing care such as wound dressing then the District Nurse can attend to you here in privacy.

OUR PERSONNEL

We select our staff carefully and try to ensure a good mix of personalities. All are long serving. We have a number of wonderful carers, a cook, a cleaner and maintenance man. What with our day care members and staff we are sure that you will find someone here who you can comfortably relate to. It is considered important that all staff hold a current First Aid Certificate and the management encourages all staff to under take further relevant training.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A TYPICAL DAY?

Our van drivers, who are also our carers pick up those who need transport.Unfortunately this service may not be available if you live outside a 21k radius of the daycare or if require a mobility van. You will usually find that about 24 - 35 people attend each day. We commence the day with balance and chair exercises prior to morning tea. There are a range of activities that people may participate in such as board games, bowls, cards or just sitting in the area of ones choosing and having a good chat. We also have craft available and its popularity depends on the group of people who are attending at the time. Entertainers and visiting speakers often visit.Twice a month we hold happy hours and once a month we have a high tea. The atmosphere is like that of a club where you can meet old friends or make new ones. Fun and laughter is on the menu with activities to interest all.

All meals are home cooked by our own cook and are nutritious and varied. All diets are catered for. Generally our folk enjoy traditional fare comprising of casseroles, roasts, meat and three vegetables. Dessert is also served. Morning and afternoon teas include home baking. In summer we may enjoy a BBQ or go on a picnic to a favorite spot.

The Daybreak vans are used for outings, which are popular. People particularly enjoy visiting places they know well and comment about all the changes that have happened over time.

HOW FLEXIBLE CAN WE BE?

Times can be made to suit clients by arrangement and day, half day and casual hourly rates are available on request.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

We know that you will probably feel apprehensive about coming to meet us. It is quite possible that you will meet someone who you have come across before.
