INFORMATION ABOUT ALZHEIMERS CANTERBURY

Alzheimers Canterbury was established in 1984. An increase in the incidence of Alzheimers Disease means that our membership is continuing to grow as we provide support for people with dementia and their families and friends. We also offer information and education to the public and the medical and helping professions about the problems associated with Alzheimers and other dementias.

OUR SERVICES INCLUDE:

CARERS’ GROUPS
These groups provide support to carers and families of people with dementia.

SOCIAL WORK
Three qualified social workers are available to provide support and education to carers and families. Meetings at a place to suit. Confidentiality assured.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME
A team of trained volunteers can provide valuable in-home respite care for carers.

MEMORY GROUP
The purpose of the group is to allow people with early memory loss and confusion to meet with others, share their thoughts and feelings and exchange ideas for coping.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
A free seven-week educational course for carers and famlies of people with dementia.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION SEMINARS
Held on the fourth Thursday of each month in our Meeting Room, these forums cover a wide range of topics of particular interest to carers and families.

LIBRARY
We have a comprehensive library of books, videos, audiotapes and research articles for loan.

NEWSLETTER
An informative resource for members and the wider community, posted to members every three months.

TOTAL MOBILITY VOUCHER SCHEME
We can arrange access to this subsidised taxi transport scheme provided by Environment Canterbury.

IDENTITY BRACELETS
We can arrange for these to be provided.

EDUCATION
Speakers are available to provide education to young people within schools.

Subsidy Details
Most services at Alzheimers Canterbury are at no cost however to gain Taxi Mobility Vouchers, annual membership is required. We are a not for profit organisation which relies on community grants and membership fees to be able to offer education and support within our community.
