Kaumatua Yes Relationship with Marae and services that can assist Orongo if a resident requests a Kaumatua. Training sessions for staff undertaken to increase cultural understanding

Oxygen Management Yes Oxgyen supply is available to manage any emergency response with competent trained staff able to administer. Regular oxygen administration, ordered by the Doctor or Specialist, is provided as directed by the resident's treatment plan
Wound Care Yes Wounds are managed according to current best practice standards, using up to date medical products. Additional advice is sought from Wound Management Specialist for any complex wounds ensuring the most effective management plan is in place.
Diabetic Care Yes Registered Nurse, in liaison with the Doctor, manages all diabetic needs and is responsive to situations that can arise for people with diabetes. All Dementia unit staff authorised to manage residents with diabetic needs are competency tested
Infection Control Yes Orongo has an active and comprehensive programme in place that fully meets required certification standards. Staff training and on-going surveillance of potential infection issues result in prompt and appropriate response to any identified problems
Palliative Care Yes Registered Nurse able to provide supervision and management of residents in the Dementia unit who require additional support. Senior Caregivers are trained to manage these residents needs. Support and expertise received from North Shore Hospice
Stroke Rehabilitation Yes Staff work with the Physiotherapist to develop a realistic treatment plan providing on-going support and management of the resident. Intensive rehabilitation programmes however are not achievable in this area

Whanau Room No If relatives wish to stay over we will do our best to make you comfortable at the bedside. Families are welcome to use staff facilities.

May Bring Own Furniture Yes Residents may appreciate having some personal furniture items in their room. This needs discussion with the Manager so furniture is appropriate to available space and the type of use it will be subjected to. Personal items such as photos are encouraged

Interests & Activities

Activity programme in place managed by Activities Coordinator and overseen by Occupational Therapist. All residents invited and encouraged to participate in activities of interest to them.
Activities include: Big print books, Aromatherapy, Board games, Canine friends, Church service, Concerts, Cooking, Craft, regular Entertainers, Happy Hour, Housie, Music, Outings, Videos.
For the more frail resident one on one activity, such as being read to, may be more appropriate.
