Special Features
Our dementia unit has been set up to resemble, as much as possible, a home environment. We will work closely with you, the spouse or family, so we can support each person as an individual and meet their own individual needs. This partnership will be reflected in the care we provide over each 24 hour period.

When you accept a place in Bakker for your family member our journey together begins. We will work with you to gain an understanding of the unique person who is joining our family of residents. Understanding the person they were, the person they have become, their likes and dislikes and their routines will help us provide an environment that will effectively support them Our staff are given training to support this person centred approach.

Interests & Activities

The daily programme is developed around daily routines giving our residents an opportunity to be part of these. This may include setting the table, folding the washing, cleaning our car, collecting the mail, reading the paper or preparing food. These are typical of activities that were part of their lives at the time they now remember.

Being in a secure unit does not mean that our residents cannot be part of activities across Cedar Manor. or part of activities with you. There just needs to be good planning and assessment of potential risks so these can be eliminated or at the very least minimised.
