"For many of New Zealand's many deaf and hearing impaired people, deafness can adversely affect the quality of their lives - sometimes moderately, often severely. We live in a 'hearing world' that often excludes or makes it extremely difficult for hearing-impaired people to communicate comfortably and effectively. The National Foundation for the Deaf works to redress this imbalance."
