'A Question of Care' is a guide to residential care options and explains the process involved with making a move into care. It is compiled by a social worker with extensive experience in the field of older persons health. Topics covered include choosing a rest home or hospital, the feelings involved on making the move, financial assistance, short-term options. The book also lists all homes in the area and specifies the level of care each one provides. Booklets from 2006 also contain information for those who live in their own homes and who require some support services.

Six editions cover New Zealand and each is specific to the area concerned: Auckland/Northland; Midland; East Coast; Wellington/Manawatu/Horowhenua/Wanganui; Canterbury/Nelson Marlborough/West Coast/Buller; Otago/Southland.

Each edition is updated every two years and is available free of charge through local NASC teams to those assessed as needing residential care. GP’s and Age Concern also have copies. Books can be ordered online at www.carepublications.co.nz at a cost of $5 (p&p inc) or by contacting Care Publications:
