| Respite | No | 'Respite Care' is a subsidised programme designed for those who have a high level of need and whose situation it is determined will benefit from a short break. It is generally allocated, if required, at the time of assessment. |
| Carer Support or other Short Stay | No | The 'Carer Support' programme and funding is designed to give the carer a break from caregiving and is allocated to the Carer. The way this service operates varies from region to region so be guided by the older person service or NASC in your region. |
| Advance bookings taken | No | Having a short break booked in advance gives everyone 'peace of mind'. However due to a number of factors including funding constraints this is not offered in all regions. In some regions beds are contracted by the DHB solely for respite/short stay. |
| Subsidised service | No | If the need for respite care has been identified in the assessment then this service is subsidised. Carer Support may require a 'top up' fee to be paid so always make enquiries first. Ensure your agreement is written down and that you have a copy. |
